Deltamarin clinches design contract for Finnlines’ Superstar flagships

The two hybrid Ro-Pax vessels, to be built at China Merchants Jinling (CMJL) shipyard in Weihai, are scheduled for delivery in 2023.

The Superstar Ro-Pax concept has been developed in cooperation with Grimaldi, Finnlines and Nordic marine designer, Knud E. Hansen. Deltamarin had earlier provided the shipyard with consultancy and contract design services on the project, and much of the detailed design work will now be carried out at the company’s offices in Finland

Deltamarin’s MD, Janne Uotila, commented on the contract award: ‘We at Deltamarin are extremely happy and thankful to get this contract during this very abnormal global business environment caused by COVID-19. This proves that Deltamarin’s expertise in the ro-pax segment is highly valued from the client side.

‘These new Ro-Pax vessels will be among the most environmentally friendly vessels of their type. Finnlines is at the forefront when it comes to sustainable shipping operations that also perfectly fit the values of our company.’

The loading capacity for the new vessels will be 5,100 lanes metres for rolling freight and some 1,200 passengers. They will enter service on the Naantali – Långnäs – Kapellskär route between Finland and Sweden.
