Mobile hydrogen refuelling station to be trialled at the Port of Valencia

From 2021, a hydrogen refuelling station will operate for a two-year trial period at the Spanish port, supplying hydrogen to two units using fuel cells  – a reach stacker which will operate at MSC Terminal Valencia and a terminal tractor that will be tested at Grimaldi Group’s Valencia Terminal Europa.

The pilot programme, developed by Centro Nacional del Hidrógeno (CNH2), is part of the European H2PORTS project, led by Fundación Valenciaport.

In a statement, the Port of Valencia said that the trial would ‘create the perfect environment for the testing of possible future uses of hydrogen fuel cells in the maritime port sector, which is intended to be exploited not only during the trial period but also after the completion of the project’.
