Biofuel set to be an option for Stena Bulk’s customers
Following a biofuel trial in April, Stena Bulk is to offer its customers the option of using 20% to 100% biofuel for their cargo shipments.
In April the company’s Stena Immortal took part in a trial which included a cross-Atlantic voyage using GoodFuels’ MR1-100 biofuel oil, produced from used cooking oil.
At the time, Erik Hånell, President and CEO Stena Bulk, said that: ‘We want to be able to offer our customers additional options with less environmental impact in the future and by conducting the trial in normal operations we want to show that being sustainable doesn´t have to interfere with core business.’
The company has now announced that it will roll out this low carbon shipping option for its customers which will be based on a offsetting program where biofuel is used within the Stena Bulk fleet. This would allow customers to make use of the low carbon option regardless of fuel availability on a specific route.
‘Performing according to our customers’ expectations is our highest priority, and this setup allows us to continue to do that while also offering a service,’ said Hånell.
‘It will be one way to take actions in meeting future requirements. This type of fuel is one step in many combined sustainable solutions that needs to be considered and can be used today.’
