Polskie LNG, part of the GAZ-SYSTEM group, and the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority have signed agreements with a consortium of PORR SA and TGE Gas Engineering for the expansion of the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal.
The total value of the contracts signed is some PLN 1.9 billion and the project is slated for completin at the end of 2023.
The investment will be overseen by two entities. Polskie LNG will be responsible for the construction of a new 180,000 cubic metre-capacity LNG tanks and the technology elements of a new ship jetty for LNG loading, unloading and bunkering
The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority will be responsible for the construction of the ‘hydrotechnical’ element of the jetty, including the mooring infrastructure.
Krzysztof Urbaś, President of the Board of the Ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście SA, commented on the terminal expansion project: ‘The expansion of the LNG Terminal by another quay is a natural stage of increasing its potential. It will also be an additional development impulse for the entire Szczecin-Świnoujście port complex.
‘The investment is extremely needed, because due to the growing care for the natural environment by the maritime sector, the demand for LNG fuel is increasing every year. Therefore, this project also meets the expectations of shipowners.’
He continued: ‘This investment may lead Świnoujście to the role of the Baltic leader in LNG transhipments.’
This year, in parallel to the tender process for the selection of the contractor for the extension of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, an Open Season call was carried out, which allowed gas market participants to submit bids for regasification service and additional services.
On 29 May, Polish LNG and PGNiG signed a contract for services that will be available after the completion of the terminal extension.
