Ecobunker launches its first LNG bunkering vessel

A naming and launching ceremony for the LNG bunkering ship Eco Bunker Tokyo Bay was held on 4 August by Fukuoka Shipbuilding.

The tanker will be able to supply both LNG and conventional bunker fuel.

The 95-metre-long tanker has capacity for 2,500 cubic metres (cbm) of LNG and 1,500 cbm of conventional bunker fuel.

The tanker’s operator Ecobunker Shipping Co., Ltd. was established in November 2018 as a joint venture between Uyeno Transtech, Sumitomo, Yokohama-Kawasaki International Port Co., and the Development Bank of Japan.

The introduction of the tanker has been supported by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), which is looking to promote Tokyo as an LNG bunkering hub.
