The Berlin-headquartered company has supplied a total of 72 tonnes of LNG to the trailing suction hopper dredger Scheldt River, and has also appointed Jan Schubert as Head of Sales and Marketing.
The truck-to-ship bunkering, which was carried out via four trucks on behalf of Finnish state-owned oil and gas supplier Gasum, was conducted using specialised equipment for parallel unloading which enabled the bunkering operation to be completed in less than six hours.
‘By conducting our first bunkering operation, we have shown together with our partners that the security of supply for LNG users is not only ensured out our land-based supply stations, but also that our customers can rely on an efficient and cost-effective supply infrastructure for the alternative fuel in various European ports as well,’ said Christian Schneider, Managing Director, LIQUIND Marine.
A subsidiary of LIQUIND 24/7, LIQUIND Marine operates eight LNG fuelling stations in Germany and currently has another 15 under development. The company says it has capitalised on ‘the experience of developing infrastructure for alternative fuels in the last years’ to expand its capabilities in the marine sector.
In addition to the first LNG bunkering to a seagoing vessel in Germany, LIQUIND Marine also announced the appointment of Jan Schubert as Head of Sales and Marketing.
Schubert returns to LIQUIND after a five-year stint away from the company which saw him take up senior roles for BTO Management Consulting, Nauticor and Gasum, respectively.
Schubert said: I am looking forward to working together with the LIQUIND team again and ensuring the supply of LNG marine customers in North Sea and Baltic Sea after the team has already done a fantastic job in the road segment.’
Schubert also highlighted the significant potential to further develop supply LNG bunkering infrastructure in Europe which is expected to create synergies with other frontrunners in the LNG industry.
Schneider and Schubert both pointed out that the cooperation with Gasum ‘perfectly fits into our plans for the future development of LIQUIND Marine.’
In parallel to infrastructural development, LIQUIND Marine says it is also focussed on realising additional emissions reduction potential that gas-fuelled vessels have to offer through providing liquified biogas (LBG) for the shipping industry in Northwest Europe.
