Knud E. Hansen unveils dual-fuelled icebreaking expedition cruise vessel design

The 144-metre-long vessel features diesel electric propulsion and two 7.5 megawatt (MW) azipod-units.

The vessel’s six generators have a combined power of approximately 23 MW and are fuelled by a combination of marine diesel oil (MDO) and LNG.

According to Knud E. Hansen, the vessel’s two tunnel thrusters – each around 1,500 KW, located at the bow, combined with the twin screw arrangement – ‘provide a high degree of maneuverability’.

There is also a large lithium-ion battery bank to power the vessel while dockside which eliminates in-port emissions. The ship has a range of 8,100 nautical miles in open
