Mitsubishi Shipbuilding awarded AiP for LNG fuel gas supply system

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. has received approval in principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas for an LNG fuel gas supply system (FGSS) for a marine four-stroke dual fuel engine.

The FGSS comprises an LNG fuel tank, gas supply unit, control systems and other relevant equipment.

According to the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries subsidiary, the FGSS has been developed mainly to be installed on coastal ferries and small to mid-sized cargo ships.

The small size vacuum-insulated type tanks to be applied for the system have a double shell structure that ensures high heat insulation and also allows the external cylinder of the tank to be at normal temperature, which, says Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, consequently simplifies the support structure of the tank and reduces the workload for the installation work.

As Bunkerspot previously reported, in December 2019, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding delivered the FGSS for the first LNG-fuelled pure car carrier to be built in Japan. The company also has one more order for the ship currently under construction.
