Mureloil inks deal for battery-powered bunker barge

Spanish bunker services provider Mureloil SAU has signed a contract with Murueta shipyard for the construction of a 7,500 cbm-capacity bunker vessel that features electric, diesel and hybrid power.

According to Algeciras-based Mureloil, the MURELOIL 7500 HT , which will be classed by Bureau Veritas, will be the first bunker vessel to feature this combination of propulsion.

‘The vessel is designed for zero emissions at port and reduction of 30% of greenhouse gases in operations,’ MURELOIL said.

The vessel will be Inert Gas ready, which, says Mureloil, ‘makes the ship optimum for being used in product transport’. It will also have a maximum discharge rate of 1,100 cubic metres per hour.

The process of designing and building the vessel, which will have the maximum grade of ‘green’ class notations, including Cleanship Super, Electric Hybrid (PM) and Oil recovery, is expected to take two years.

The vessel is scheduled to enter service at the beginning of 2022.
