France-based container ship operator CMA CGM has announced that the CMA CGM Patagonia, the first in a series of 15,000 TEU LNG-powered ships ordered in 2019, has been launched at the CSSC Jiangnan shipyard in Shanghai.
In a brief statement published on its LinkedIn page, CMA CGM said that the new vessel will be delivered in mid-August 2021.
The CMA CMA Patagonia will be followed by four LNG-powered sisterships: the CMA CGM Kimberley, the CMA CGM Everglade, the CMA CGM Galapagos, and the CMA CGM Greenland.
CMA CGM added that the group will have ‘a fleet of 26 LNG containerships of various sizes by 2022’.
Earlier this month, a naming ceremony was held at the Changxing Island Shipbuilding Base for the CMA CGM Rivoli, which is the fifth of nine 23,000 container ships that the company has ordered from China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
