SHI secures order for LNG-fuelled quartet

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has been awarded a $415 million contract to build four LNG-fuelled very large crude carriers (VLCC).

The order was placed by an unnamed Oceania company and the vessels are scheduled for delivery by June 2023.

This latest order follows on from the announcement this week that Seaspan has contracted SHI to build 10 10 15,000 TEU dual-fuelled LNG containerships. Marking Seaspan’s first investment in LNG-fuelled tonnage, these vessels will go on long term charter to ZIM when deliveries begin in H1 2023.
