Havila Voyages eyes biogas for newly christened Havila Castor

A naming ceremony has been held in Ålesund, Norway today (14 November) for Havila Voyages’ LNG-fuelled Havila Castor.

As previously reported, the coastal passenger vessel is the company’s second LNG hybrid ship after the Havila Capella.

The vessel, which also features battery packages that can be charged from a shore power supply connection and can also be used as an independent power source for possible zero-emission voyage, operates between Bergen and Kirkenes.

Speaking to ship.energy, Head of Communications at Havila Voyages, Lasse A. Vangstein, confirmed that the vessel is currently being fuelled with LNG at both Bergen and Kirkenes, and that the company has ‘clear intentions on switching to biogas in the future, but that is pending on availability.’
