China Classification Society issues type approval to Wärtsilä’s W32M methanol engine

China Classification Society (CCS) has announced that it recently issued its first Type Approval Certificate (TAC) for a methanol engine to Wärtsilä.

The Finnish technology company’s W32M engine is a four-stroke engine that can run on methanol, as well as heavy fuel oil, marine diesel oil and liquid biofuel.

‘The successful development of this engine and its type approval by CCS are an important achievement of the cooperation between the two parties in the field of new energy application,’ CCS said in a statement last week.

‘It not only facilitates the global shipping industry in carbon reduction and green & low-carbon transformation, but also lays a solid foundation for closer cooperation between the two parties in the field of new energy and new technology in the future.’
