Mitsubishi and Taiwan fertiliser partner to develop ammonia value chain for net-zero emissions

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Taiwan Fertilizer Co. (TFC) have teamed up to explore building a fuel ammonia value chain in Taiwan.

The move is aimed at advancing the nation’s ambitious 2050 Net-Zero Emissions target.

MHI and TFC’s collaboration aims to support Taiwan’s decarbonisation goal by assessing the feasibility of facilities for ammonia receiving, storage, handling, and delivery, as well as its use in power generation.

The study will focus on establishing a comprehensive ammonia value chain, which could play a crucial role in Taiwan’s carbon neutrality efforts. Ammonia is considered a promising clean fuel as it can be combusted without producing carbon dioxide.

“Through this collaboration, we aim to contribute to the realization of a sustainable, carbon-neutral world,” MHI stated.

This initiative aligns with Taiwan’s broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition to less carbon-intensive energy sources.
