Greenpeace International’s upcoming ship, set to launch in 2027, will be a sail-powered vessel utilising advanced DynaRig technology.
The 75-metre ship will be designed by Dykstra Naval Architects, a firm specialising in classic and modern yacht designs. The project is supported by Longitude Engineering, known for its expertise in naval architecture, and ABL Group, a global energy and marine consultancy. The vessel will feature two masts and a 2,000 square metre sail area.
The DynaRig technology, developed by North Windships and Southern Spars, has previously been used in luxury yachts such as the Maltese Falcon and Black Pearl. The sail system is now being adapted for broader maritime use.
The ship will be constructed at Freire Shipyard in Spain.
In a related initiative, Velic Consulting is overseeing a project to build a 100-metre, 150-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) container ship, also utilising DynaRig technology.
The project has secured €50 million in funding from PROW Capital, marking it as the first in a new planned series of wind powered cargo vessels.
