The Methanol Institute (MI) announced on Monday (2 December) that Bia Energy Operating Company LLC has joined as its newest member.
The announcement, made via a statement from MI, highlighted Bia Energy’s development of a new production facility in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Shreveport plant is designed to have a capacity to produce approximately 550,000 metric tonnes of blue and bio-methanol annually.
Greg Dolan, CEO of MI, said, ‘Bia Energy’s commitment to producing low-carbon methanol is a prime example of the innovation driving the industry forward. As a key transitional fuel, low-carbon methanol plays a vital role in the global energy transition by helping reduce emissions across industries. Their project not only supports the shift toward a more sustainable energy future, but also strengthens domestic manufacturing capabilities.’
The Shreveport facility will also produce blue hydrogen, which will be used on-site to fuel power generation and as feedstock for methanol production. This aims to achieve a CO₂ emissions reduction of over 93% compared to conventional methods, according to the Methanol Institute.
