Green Marine – the global initiatives aiming to support maritime decarbonisation – has unveiled its 2025 programme, which now includes 15 performance indicators.
In a statement issued yesterday (16 April), Green Marine said that the key enhancements include:
- Increased GHG reduction targets for ship owners, so its ‘Level 4’ certification now requires a 1.3% annual average intensity reduction, and there are also higher renewable energy usage requirements – of 40% – at Level 5
- A new performance indicator for shipyards focused on reducing waste and harmful substances from painting, coating, and blasting operations
- Expanded Community impacts criteria addressing vibrations, nuisance wildlife, visual pollution, and potable water use.
Green Marine runs a voluntary certification programme, through which maritime stakeholders including ship owners, ports, terminals and shipyards can demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
