Maritime Week Gibraltar (MWG), now on its third edition, has become one of the most important maritime events in southern Europe. The biennial event has been created to showcase and promote Gibraltar’s thriving maritime sector to a wider international audience. After the successes of 2019 and 2021, MWG23 is expected to be the most popular yet.

Llewellyn began his career in the oil industry in 1980, working both as a journalist and as oil broker in London and New York, with Petroleum Argus, Eperon Petroleum, Albion Oil, Petroleum Intelligence Weekly and OPEC Listener, before joining MRC Business Information Group in Oxford – which later became Lloyd’s List Intelligence after MRC’s acquisition by Informa – where he rose to Managing Director before leaving in May 2003 to establish Petrospot Ltd.
He is a Founding Member of the International Bunker Industry Association, which he helped create in 1993 and has organised conferences, seminars, training courses and multiple other events in 35 countries around the world and attended events as a journalist or conference speaker in a further dozen countries.
Llewellyn is co-creator, co-founder and co-owner of the biennial London International Shipping Week, whose first edition took place in September 2013 and has become one of the largest maritime events in the world.
Llewellyn was born in Abergavenny, Wales, in 1957 and lives in Oxfordshire.
This session will examine the current state of global shipping markets and the bunkering sector and move on to look at how incoming regulatory initiatives are affecting decision making for shipping, bunkering and port operations.

With an educational background in Chemical Engineering and a proven track record in the bunkering industry, Claudia has a wide experience of working with alternative fuels. She first entered the maritime industry 15 years ago, engaged in business development for Certified Bunker Measurement Solutions and Fuel Measurements at Emerson. From the moment she entered the industry, Claudia started to grow a passion for LNG, its fossil free alternatives and other future fuels.
Following her time with Emerson and some years with Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, Claudia became Global Account Manager for Dutch barging company VT Group in September 2021. Here, besides having global responsibility for the commercial activities of the VT Group, she was also the lead for developing and driving VT’s sustainability strategy to enable the transportation and bunkering of alternative fuels.
Besides her regular job, Claudia has always been active in several associations, from the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) for the past 10 years, to the NEN working group (inland shipping methanol bunkering standard). Since April 2023, she has served as an elected board member of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA).
Now all of these real life experiences come together in her latest journey; running her own company, C4fuel BV. As an independent consultant on all aspects of (alternative) fuels, Claudia supports maritime stakeholders in making better choices and increasing sustainability and transparency within the industry.
This session will look at traditional bunkering and at some of the early leaders in alternative energies in the quest to fuel the marine energy transition.

Steve is the Group Commercial & Business Development Director for VPS, responsible for the development and implementation of global commercial strategy, since joining the company in July 2016,
Graduating from Northumbria University with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry, Steve worked as an R&D Chemist for BNFL, ICI and Sanofi-Aventis, before joining Anachem Ltd, in a commercial role within laboratory instrumentation in 1997.
Progressing his international commercial career, Steve moved from technical sales to Sales & Marketing Manager, before becoming the General Manager for a1-Envirotech, gaining formal business management qualifications and awards along the way.
Steve joined Lintec Testing Services Ltd, a subsidiary of Intertek, as Operations & Key Accounts Manager in 2007, before becoming General Manager of Lintec in 2011, then Director of Intertek ShipCare in June 2012, a role held until joining VPS.
Senior Quality Manager – Marine

Michael joined World Fuel Services, as Senior Quality Manager for Marine Technical, in December 2019 following 17 years in the fuel testing industry with Lintec Testing Services / Intertek ShipCare. As a member of the marine technical team his focus is delivering added value to WFS customers. The technical team also offers support for the WFS physical delivery locations, support in relation to continued progression of legislative reform, development of new fuels and technologies and quality / quantity disputes.
Michael is heavily involved with a range of established industry technical committees and working groups as well as industry associations within the marine fuel sector. He currently represents the UK on the BSI PTI /002 working group as well as number of ISO working groups including the ISO 8217 working group ISO/TC 28/SC 4/WG 6, and the ISO Alternative Marine Fuels group ISO /TC28/SC4/WG18. He is also an active member in a number of different working groups and sub-committees at The Energy Institute as well as having previously spent 9 years as a member of the CIMAC Working Group 7 for Fuels.
Michael is the immediate past Chairman of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), a position he held for two years. He joined the IBIA Board of Directors in April 2014 taking an active role in the development and progression of the association. During his time at IBIA he acted as the chairman of the working group for Training and Education and was elected to the position of Vice Chair of the IBIA board of directors in April 2016. Michael took on the role as the Chairman of the IBIA Board of Directors in April 2018 working closely with the Director of IBIA to ensure progression and recognition of the contribution the association provides to its members and the bunkering industry as a whole.

Nigel Draffin has been involved in shipping for over 50 years and in bunkering for over 25 years. He joined Shell Tankers in 1966, serving on all classes of vessel, including VLCCs and LNG tankers. In 1979, he joined the newbuilding department of Shell International Marine and later transferred to Shell’s R&D unit, specialising in control systems, fuel combustion and safety systems.
In 1986, Nigel moved to the commercial department as a bunker buyer and economics analyst, two years later becoming Head of Operational Economics, responsible for all of the fuel purchased for the Shell fleet. In 1996, he joined E. A. Gibson Shipbrokers which, in 2006, merged with US-based broking house LQM Petroleum Services, where he was Senior Broker and Technical Manager. He retired from LQM in July 2015.
Nigel is a founder member of IBIA, serving several times on its council of management, the board and as its Chairman. Nigel has written 10 books on bunkering, shipping and marine lubes published by ship.energy. Nigel is a member of IMarEST and Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Fuellers.
