Session One: Close Scrutiny: The ARA Market in Focus

The opening session of ARACON 2022 will take a close look at the health of – and outlook for – the ARA market. Has its bunker market experienced a full bounce back from the impact of COVID 19 on shipping operations? How is the ongoing crisis in Ukraine affecting product flows, fuel availability and quality? How are buyers and suppliers coping with the constraints on doing business with Russian counterparties. Has the introduction of a pilot bunker licensing scheme at the Port of Rotterdam served to bring more transparency in the market. And how might the ARA market evolve over the next 10-15 years?

Session Three: Data Mining: The Impact of Digitalisation on the Bunker Supply Chain and Fuel Consumption

There are many initiatives underway to make bunkering processes more transparent and vessel operations more efficient. This session will discuss how harnessing the power of data can achieve significant results in bunker procurement and planning, vessel optimisation, fuel consumption and GHG emission reductions. Digitalisation can also streamline operations and bring transparency to the bunker delivery itself.

Speakers will take a ‘deep dive’ into the marine fuel pool to consider recent trends in fuel characteristics – in the ARA market and at other global bunker hubs. In the light of the HSFO contamination problems in Singapore earlier in the year, fuel experts will consider best practice in fuel storage and sampling, as well as developments in fuel testing. The session will also look at whether the practice of short delivery is still endemic in the bunker sector. In terms of fuel quality and quantity, can bunker buyers be any more confident that they are getting what they pay for?
