Session Five: Green Shoots: New Fuels and Environmental Regulation

Panellists will consider the evolution of LNG bunkering in the ARA region and its role in shipping’s decarbonisation. Is it a transitional fuel or a fuel in transition, and are high gas prices in Europe hindering the development of the marine LNG market? The role of biofuels in the energy transition will also be addressed. Will decisions taken at IMO MEPC 78 and the approaches to biofuel outlined in the EU’s FuelEU Maritime proposals encourage the adoption of biofuel by buyers and suppliers. This session will also assess the financial, commercial and operational impacts on shipping and bunkering of the EU’s Fit for 55 proposals, notably the inclusion of shipping in the EU Emissions Trading System.
