This session will consider the current commercial environment for shipping and bunkering. How have global events such as the Ukraine crisis and the impact of the pandemic on China’s manufacturing base and demand for raw materials impacted trade/energy flows and supply chain operations, and what will 2023 bring for the marine fuels sector in terms of credit availability, counterparty risk, fuel sourcing, price volatility and M&A activity.

SESSION TWO - PROBLEM-SOLVING: STRATEGIES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ADDRESS FUEL QUALITY AND QUANTITY ISSUES

This session will analyse fuel quality trends and the industry response to recent fuel contamination episodes. What risk mitigation approaches can buyers and sellers take to ensure that fuel is fit for purpose and what should be included in a revision of ISO 8217? Speakers will also discuss the perennial problem of short delivery and consider how the use of mass flow meters and digitalisation can bring more transparency into bunker deliveries. The session will also include a focus on handling fuel quality and quantity disputes.

SESSION FOUR - FORWARD-THINKING: HOW SHIPPING AND BUNKERING CAN KEEP PACE WITH ENERGY TRANSITION TARGETS

This session will look at how shipping and the bunker sector are making plans for the energy transition. What are the fuels and technologies available now that can reduce the industry’s GHG emissions and when will the ‘future’ fuels, such as ammonia and hydrogen, be ready at scale? How long can abatement technology support the continued use of fossil-based bunker fuels? What will be the impact of the IMO’s CII and EEXI regulations as well as other global and national measures designed to improve vessel efficiency and reduce shipping’s GHG emissions.
