  • Hi Mark, eloquently written as always but one (Freudian?) typo (‘omissions’) in the paragraph on SBTi. I believe the CEO Alliance has been around since 2014. The fact that only Maersk is a member tends to reflect the fact that shipping companies still seem to operate outside the mainstream of the corporate world – which is perhaps part of the reason they are easy to pick on. I don’t think they necessarily need to report to CDP but they should be doing more to get their broader ESG strategy and disclosure aligned with international and regional norms, including through proper sustainability reporting (using the GRI Standards) and particularly on their climate change strategy by way of a TCFD report…..

  • ….. and seemingly by pure coincidence I just received an email from SBTi which includes this announcement:

“Launch of the SBTi Guidance for the Maritime Transport Sector
On December 6, 2022, we are launching the first science-based framework for companies in this sector to set near-and long-term targets in line with 1.5°C – the Science Based Target Setting Guidance for the Maritime Transport Sector.”
