Newly released fuel quality statistics from Bureau Veritas VeriFuel indicate a fall in off-spec very low sulphur fuels (VLSFO) in the first quarter of the year, alongside some changes in viscosity quarter-on-quarter for VLSFO and also for high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO). With new requirements for importers set to come into effect next year as part of the European Union’s (EU) Methane Regulation, a group of industry associations has proposed a set of ‘target adjustments’ that they say are ‘critical to ensure Europe’s energy security’. In an open letter published today (21 April), a group of environmental NGOs have called on the European Commission (EC) and European Union (EU) Member States to reaffirm their commitment to a ‘timely implementation’ of the EU Methane Regulation updates, and also ‘refrain from measures that would delay or dilute’ its impact.
