CM Technologies (CMT) has developed a compact oil analyser that can enable ship crews to assess lubricant condition quickly rather than waiting for shore-based test results. The new WBS Analyser, which will be introduced at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg in early September, uses infrared spectroscopy to examine the composition of system oils to assess water, base number and soot content from a single sample. Bahri Logistics, part of the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri), has opened two new ship agency offices at Yanbu Commercial and Industrial Ports and Ras Tanura Industrial Port. The offices complement the company’s existing operations at Jubail Commercial and Industrial Ports, Ras Al-Khair Port, Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdullah Port, and King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. During his visit to the Caribbean last week, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama met with Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and talked over plans to ‘create smooth transport links between West Africa and the Caribbean’. In a statement issued last week, the Ghanaian Presidential Officer said the ideas raised included ‘new shipping routes to build a “hub-to-hub” economic system’ – adding that ‘maritime officials from both countries’ are already looking into the possibilities.
