Classification society ABS has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to a design from the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) for a 15,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) container ship powered by small modular reactors (SMRs). The 2,050,336 tonnes of bunker fuel and marine lubricants sold in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in the second quarter (Q2) of the year marked a 3.2% increase on the 1,987,455 million tonnes that were recorded in the same period in 2025. Q2’s sales were, however, marginally down on the 2,099,602 tonnes that was reported in the first quarter of the year, statistics published by the Belgian port show. In an update published today (20 July), Clarksons Research says that Strait of Hormuz vessel transits have fallen to an average of 12 per day over the past five days, compared with a pre-conflict daily tally of 125 crossings. Steve Gordon, Global Head of Clarksons Research also noted that in tonnage terms, transits have dropped to over 95% below ‘normal’ levels in recent days, and energy volumes leaving the Gulf are also diminishing.
