Spanish shipping company Baleària’s Mercedes Pinto fast ferry has completed an LNG bunkering first in the Port of Las Palmas. A naming ceremony was held on Tuesday (14 July) at a HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. for the HALWAN, a 174,000 cubic metre (cbm) LNG carrier for QatarEnergy. The vessel is the ninth in a series of 12 LNG vessels that are being built for QatarEnergy by a joint venture comprising “K” LINE, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited., and MISC Berhad. It is also the second of three vessels for which “K” LINE is responsible for ship management. Shell Bahamas Power Company (Shell) has taken a final investment decision (FID) on an LNG regasification terminal in The Bahamas. As part of the investment decision, the energy major has acquired a 40% interest in New Providence Gas Ltd. (NPG), a joint venture with Sun Oil Holdings (Sun Oil), a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings Limited. Currently, most of the electricity generation in The Bahamas relies on imported diesel and fuel oil.
