Sales of marine fuel at the Port of Rotterdam in the first three months of the year fell by approximately 25% compared to 2025. The largest decrease occurred in the fossil fuel oil segment, particularly very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), which sank 44%, from 789,218 tonnes in Q1 2025 to 439,804 tonnes in Q1 2026. High sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) sales dropped from 829,197 tonnes to 619,010 tonnes – a 25% year-on-year (y-o-y) decline. Work is still underway to clean up an oil spill which occurred at the Deurganck Dock at the Port of Antwerp on 9 April, and operations remain on hold at Europa Terminal. As previously reported by ship.energy, in the aftermath of the spill the port said it had caused ‘significant disruption’ with the River Scheldt fully closed to traffic between buoy 80 (above Noordzeeterminal) and the entrance to the Deurganck Dock. Norway’s Zinus Power has announced it has been awarded a contract by the Connecticut Port Authority to support a shore power project at State Pier at the Port of New London. In a statement sent to ship.energy, Zinus said its deliveries will introduce extended shore power capabilities and connections to vessels through battery-powered mobile shore power cable management systems. Delivery is scheduled for late Q4 2026.
