First ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in Japan

The fuelling of NYK Line’s Sakura Leader pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) by the Kaguya LNG bunker vessel marked the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation in Japan.

The LNG fuel supplied by Kaguya was loaded at JERA’s Kawagoe Thermal Power Station prior to the bunkering operation, which took place on 20 October.

As previously reported, Kaguya, Japan’s first LBV, is operated by Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation (Central LNG), a joint venture consisting of ‘K’ Line, Chubu Electric Power, Toyota Tsusho and NYK Line.

The 3,500 cbm-capacity vessel will be based at Kawagoe Thermal Power Station and will ‘soon begin’ supplying LNG fuel to ships in the Chubu region, Central LNG said.
