  • If a ship is moving forward at, say, 13.5 kt it will generate a wind of that speed. For a kite to work and provide forward pull, what apparent wind speed will it need? I guess that would need to be at least 13 kt apparent wind speed, which means a true wind speed of 26.5 kt. This is Beaufort Force 6. How often does F6 occur in the areas where these ships will trade?
