Japanese classification society ClassNK has announced that Japan Engine’s 6UEC35LSGH – which it describes as ‘the world’s first hydrogen-fuelled engine for large commercial vessels’ – has successfully completed land-based testing. In a statement issued today (18 September), ClassNK said that the engine ‘achieved a hydrogen co-firing rate of at least 95%, reducing GHG emissions by more than 95% compared with conventional heavy-fuel-oil engines’. Construction has got underway on the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley – Europe’s largest green hydrogen project. Senior political and business leaders – including Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez – gathered in southern Spain to support the construction of the first phase of the project yesterday (17 September). Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Yokogawa) has announced it has received orders from Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. to supply integrated automation systems for two hydrogen-fuelled vessels, as well as a 40,000 cubic metre (cbm) liquefied hydrogen carrier. The marine hydrogen fuel system (MHFS) for the hydrogen-fuelled vessels consists of liquefied hydrogen tanks and fuel supply equipment, Yokogawa said in a statement earlier this week.
