Portsmouth International Port has flagged ‘another major milestone in our shore power journey’ with the first commercial connection of a cruise ship today (5 August). As previously reported by ship.energy, the shore power system at the UK port became fully operational at the end of last month. Brittany Ferries’ St Malo and the Guillaume de Normandie were the first to charge up during the system’s final testing phase while cruise ships AIDAsol and Amera also took electricity as part of system tests. Huajing LNG Transport (HLT) held a naming ceremony yesterday (4 August) for a new dual fuel LNG carrier for Chinese state-owned energy company, CNOOC Group. The ceremony took place at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. in China, where the vessel is being built, and where the ship was named Greenergy River.
