A new report released today by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) has canvassed the views of 25 organisations across the maritime value chain to determine what targeted action can most effectively accelerate the uptake of new drop-in fuels. Maersk has reported that terminal operations at the port of Buenaventura have been temporarily suspended as a result of the earthquake which hit Colombia on Monday. In a statement issued today (11 August), Maersk said that vessel operations, cargo handling activities, and service schedules in Buenaventura had all being affected, while road closures and traffic restrictions on key inland corridors between Buenaventura and the interior of Colombia may affect import and export cargo movements. Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has announced the delivery of the 86,700 cubic metre (cbm) LPG-fuelled LPG and ammonia carrier Lyla Pathfinder, and the vessel has also received conceptual design approval from the Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (Japan Maritime Association) for the use of ammonia as a marine fuel. The vessel was delivered to its owner CAMEL MARITIMA SA, and it will be managed by NYK and chartered to UAE-headquartered BGN INT FZCO.
