Japanese shipowner IINO Kaiun Kaisha (Iino Lines) and United Arab Emirates-based energy and trading company BGN have signed a time charter (TC) contract for a 90,000 cubic metre (cbm) capacity LPG dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC). The vessel will be constructed at South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and is scheduled for delivery at the end of December 2029, Iino Lines said in a statement earlier this week. Marine engineering company Babcock LGE has developed ecoAPEX (Advanced Performance Extraction), which is a reliquefaction architecture designed to make better use of energy onboard vessels carrying fuels. Babcock LGE highlights that dual-fuel gas carriers face an inherent inefficiency as energy is used to cool boil-off gas back to liquid while at the same time fuel is heated to the temperature required by a vessel’s engines. ecoAPEX ‘consolidates these opposing energy demands,’ says the company, thereby allowing a vessel to recover more value from energy. Nord Gas Solutions has won a contract to supply the cargo handling system and LPG fuel supply system for two 40,000 cubic metre (cbm) medium gas carriers which are under construction at HD Hyundai for Byzantine Maritime. The contract was signed in June and announced by Nord Gas Solutions today (8 September).
