Projects to deploy onshore power supply and build ammonia bunkering infrastructure in European ports are among 70 initiatives that were selected for EU grants announced today (17 November). The 70 projects were selected under the second cut-off of the 2024-2025 Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), which closed in June this year. T&E analysis of official EU monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) data shows that EU shipping emissions hit the highest levels in 2024 since the EU implemented mandatory reporting in 2018, with the NGO identifying MSC as ‘the most polluting shipping company in the EU.’ EU shipping emissions grew last year in spite of a downturn in EU-related trade which caused changes to vessel routing in response to hostilities in the Red Sea region.
