Tharsis Ship Management has announced it has secured funding from the EU Innovation Fund for a project that is developing zero-emission sea-river container vessels.  In a statement sent to ship.energy yesterday (28 April), Netherlands-based Tharsis said the eSeaRiverBarge Project covers the development, construction, and operational deployment of two ‘first-of-a-kind’ seagoing containerships with inland/river capabilities.   The vessels will feature a dedicated storage hold for 16 swappable ISO energy containers, which can house a wide range of energy carriers, such as batteries, hydrogen or ammonia. Canada-based BC Ferries has selected Everllence 32/44CR main engines for the four New Major Vessel (NMV) class ferries that it will be adding to its fleet. The first NMV ferry will be built by China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard and is set to enter service by 2029. All four vessels are scheduled to be operational by 2031. Climate NGO Pacific Environment has welcomed the Coastal Sustainability Alliance’s (CSA) ‘Milk Run’ strategy for getting supplies to ships at Singapore’s anchorages as an effective way to help shipowners reduce their Scope 3 emissions and reduce marine traffic at the port. Instead of using the traditional approach of multiple small boats making individual trips to ships at anchorage, the Milk-Run strategy involves the Voltai – Singapore’s largest e-supply boat – delivering goods to multiple mother vessels in a single, optimised loop.
