The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has completed the Type Approval process for the 92 kWh Lithium-Ion Battery System developed by Medha Energy Solutions Private Limited, marking the first approval for a large-capacity battery using Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO) technology in India. LTO batteries provide a longer life cycle, fast charging capability, and higher peak power output. The Type Approval certification recognises the system’s compliance with applicable technical and safety requirements and supports the wider adoption of advanced energy-storage technologies across the transportation and maritime sectors. Commenting on the approval, Mr. K Shammy, Divisional Head Ships and Technical Services at […]

Belfast Harbour is to become a live environment for testing the next generation of zero-emission transport and energy systems through a £15 million investment announced by Northern Ireland Economy Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald. The funding comes from UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) Local Innovation Partnerships Fund (LIPF) and is the second project announced from the £30 million allocation to the Belfast-Derry Innovation Corridor.  The Zero Emissions Transport and Energy Cluster (ZETEC), led by Belfast-based Artemis Technologies, will connect electric vessels, high-power marine charging, autonomous transport and energy systems through digital twin technology. In a statement issued yesterday (15 October), the […]

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Constellation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to study how battery energy storage could improve efficiency and resilience of power systems on board a Constellation drillship. In a statement issued on Wednesday (14 October), ABS said they will examine the feasibility of running the vessel’s generators as a single, connected power system rather than in isolated groups. According to ABS, this approach – which is known as ‘closed-bus operations’ – could reduce the number of engines needed to run at a given time, and thereby save energy, reduce emissions and strengthen power-plant resilience […]
