Waste heat recovery specialist Orcan Energy has installed and commissioned a 100 kW efficiency PACK system based on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) aboard a vessel operated by Norway’s Hagland Shipping. In a statement issued last week, Orcan Energy said that the system onboard the Hagland Polaris will be the first of four planned installations for Hagland Shipping. The U.S. Administration has a launched a Request for Information inviting industry input in the development of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMR) for commercial shipping. The project, which was announced yesterday (7 May) by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. South Korea’s KSS Line has contracted HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to build three LPG dual fuel very large gas carriers (VLGCs). The vessels will be delivered sequentially from Q1 2029, with two of the vessels going on charter with BGN Group while the third carrier will be chartered by GYXIS. The contract period agreed with BGN Group is for seven years, with a value of approximately 514.3 billion KRW.
