Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva yesterday (20 January) took part in a contract-signing ceremony for the construction of five gas carriers, 18 barges and 18 pushboats for Petrobras and its logistics subsidiary Transpetro. Trade association Interferry, which represents the global ferry industry, has called for the implementation of the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) for the maritime sector to be frozen at the 2025 levels rather than scaled up to cover 100% of vessels’ emissions from this year. The European cap-and-trade scheme for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions was expanded to include maritime transport from January 2024. Incat Crowther has announced that the Hydromover 2.0 – the all-electric light cargo transfer vessel that it designed for Singapore’s marinEV, a business of Yinson GreenTech – has officially entered service in Singapore. The Hydromover 2.0 follows on from the prototype Hydromover 1.0, Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel that was launched in 2023.
