First LNG bunkering for Axpo in Valencia

Axpo has announced the completion today (13 October) of its first LNG bunkering operation in the Port of Valencia, Spain. Lloyd’s Register, Shell and GTT partner on hybrid-electric LNG carrier concept

Lloyd’s Register (LR), Shell and GTT have launched a Joint Development Project (JDP) to develop a conceptual 200,000 cubic metre LNG carrier featuring hybrid-electric propulsion with GTT’s NEXT1 cargo containment technology. By bringing together a larger-capacity vessel concept with hybrid-electric propulsion and GTT’s cargo containment technology, the partners aim to explore how future LNG carrier designs could transport more cargo, operate more efficiently and provide greater flexibility as industry requirements continue to evolve. Under the JDP, the parties will work on the development and safety verification of the vessel’s hybrid-electric propulsion system, focusing on system architecture, redundancy philosophy and battery […]

SIBCON 26: Adoption of ISO 8217:2024 fuel specification remains very slow

One question that arises with every new edition of the bunker fuel quality standard ISO 8217 is why the industry takes so long to adopt it, often choosing to stick with the previous or even earlier versions. According to Choudhuri, only 0.8% of the fleet is using ISO 8217: […]
