The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has confirmed that a one-year suspension of the United States’ investigation into China’s dominant position in the maritime, logistics and shipbuilding industries will take effect from today (10 November). The suspension follows the trade and economic deal reached between President Trump and President Xi Jinping of China, which was announced by the White House on 1 November. The governments of India and the Netherlands have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maritime cooperation along with a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish a Green and Digital Sea Corridor (GDSC) connecting Indian ports with the Port of Rotterdam. The agreement was signed at the India Maritime Week event which is currently taking place in Mumbai. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the state-owned Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) to work together on the tugboat business in India. As previously reported, the Indian Government’s Green Tug Transition Programme aims to have ‘environmentally friendly’ tugboats operating at all the country’s major ports to by 2040. In a statement issued today (28 October), MOL said that it will support SCI with ‘its accumulated expertise and technology in safe operations and alternative fuel-powered vessels, to expand its tugboat services in this vital region, while reducing GHG emissions from ports’.
